MMSE interference suppression for timing acquisition and demodulation in direct-sequence CDMA systems

چکیده
It has been recently shown that minimum-meansquared-error (MMSE) demodulators are effective means of interference suppression in code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems. The MMSE demodulator can be implemented adaptively using an initial training sequence, followed by decision-directed adaptation. This requires that the symbol-level timing of the desired user be known prior to training. In this paper we remove this requirement by providing a method for timing acquisition in which the output of the acquisition process is a near–far-resistant demodulator which automatically accounts for the delays and amplitudes of both the desired signal and the interference without explicitly estimating these parameters. The only requirements are a training sequence for the desired user and a finite uncertainty regarding the symbol timing. The latter condition can be realized by using a periodic training sequence even if the absolute timing uncertainty is arbitrarily large.

A new blind adaptive interference suppression scheme for acquisition and MMSE demodulation of DS/CDMA signals
In this paper, we present an efficient blind algorithm for estimating the code timing of a desired user in an asynchronous direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (DS/CDMA) system over frequency-nonselective-fading channels. The proposed algorithm acquires the code timing explicitly and results in a near–far resistant minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) demodulation without requiring the kn...

Two key operations required of a receiver in a direct-sequence (DS) code division multiple access (CDMA) system are the timing acquisition of transmissions that are starting up or have lost synchronization, and the demodulation of transmissions that have been acquired. The reliability of both these operations is limited by multiple-access interference, especially for conventional matched filter...
متن کاملBlind Demodulation of Direct-Sequence CDMA Signals Using an Antenna Array
Recent work on Direct-Sequence (DS) Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) has shown that blind adaptive interference suppression techniques can be used for reliable demodulation, provided that the timing of the desired signal is known. The blind demodulator has since been used as a building block for a scheme for joint timing acquisition and demodulation. In this paper, we consider a blind adapt...
متن کاملMMSE interference suppression for direct-sequence spread-spectrum CDMA
We consider interference suppression for direct-sequence spread-spectrum code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems using the minimum mean squared error (MMSE) performance criterion. The conventional matched filter receiver suffers from the near-far problem, and requires strict power control (typically involving feedback from receiver to transmitter) for acceptable performance. Multiuser dete...
متن کاملDi erential MMSE : new adaptive algorithms for equalization , interference suppression
This paper provides a reformulation of the linear Minimum Mean Squared Error (MMSE) criterion so that it applies to systems in which the quantity to be tracked is the ratio of the data appearing in two successive observations. The resulting diierential MMSE criterion leads to a number of novel algorithms for adaptive implementation of the MMSE receiver. Applications include the following: (a) e...
